Vintage Signs for Market

Love Love Love these signs that we are making for Vintage Market Days!!  We went digging around the old family farm this weekend and found all kinds of wood and neat vintage discards to paint on.  Sista Lisa Jo painted this Jesus Loves Me sign.  I love the worn warm colors she used with the old hinge.  So sweet!!

Who doesn't like a nest sign?  We will have several different signs each one unique and different.  We try to find old vintage discards to paint on.  Whether it's an old dresser that fell apart or an old chair that has no legs they are perfect for us to turn into something beautiful once again!

Sista's at Work

Since all my projects are half done around here thought I would share another little sign. This one is made by my  other sis Lisa Jo.  She found the dresser drawer down at the family farm. Daddy was cleaning out an old building that was used as a garage when my great grandparents lived on the farm.  It was full of old junk alot it had been ruined due to a roof  leak... Sad There is no telling what treasures I could have found!!

I love the word vintage that she painted on it so sweet.  The drawer handles make it even sweeter.  Never know what you'll find around the farm!!

Vintage Wall Art

Well ....I have all the sisters working on filling up our booth for Vintage Market Days.  My sister Sandy sent me this photo of a wall hanging she made out of a piece of old wood from our grannies chicken coop and old door locks and hinges she found at mom and dads farm.  I love the look!!! I think you could hang it by the back door and hang keys and dog leaches on it!!  So sweet and defiantly says vintage.

Birds Are Singing!!

Remember my beautiful birdhouse I showed you yesterday???  Not!!! It was ugly green and burgundy with a little metal flower on it.  I'm sure it was cute in it's day, but now not so sure.  Well yesterday I dug out my paint, glue gun, old jewelry and everything else but the kitchen sink to spiff this little gem up.

I painted her a soft grey then stamp french lettering on her in black.  I went over the whole piece with a glaze well actually two glazes (burnt umber,  black).

I just started gluing on all kinds vintage buttons, jewelry and lace.  I also made some flowers out of burlap and book pages.  This is the first time I've made flowers out of book pages and I love the way they turned out.

Makeovers and Flea Markets

Those of you that have been reading my blog know I love makeovers and flea markets.  I love to see how something that you buy that is outdated and really cheap can be transformed into something really special.  My weekends are crazy so I don't get to go to to many garage sales so most of my treasures are found out flea markets and thrift stores.

Here are some of my recent finds I found on a trip I took with my mom and sisters to Arkansas.  I love the doctor bag I found,  I have no clue what I'm going to do with it but it was really cheap and different so I snapped it up.  My eye always go to something that is crystal, silver or galvanized so these salt and pepper shakers are right up my alley.  This photo doesn't do them justice they are very big and heavy... love love.  I also found some damask pillow shams in cream and a blue maybe I'll use them in my room makeover.

Another good thing about flea markets and thrift stores is you find alot of outdated things for really cheap.  I love it when I find something for a dollar or so and turn it into something that looks like you have a lot of money in it.  Here are some of my uglies that I am getting ready to redo.

I use to have alot of birdhouses that looked like this and threw out now I'm buying them at thrift stores to makeover,  crazy....  I know she's not that pretty now but soon she will be.  I really don't like much about her now but I know she has potential.  She has great lines and a metal roof plus she was only two bucks!!!

I'm always on the lookout for things for my bedroom makeover,  these lamps will be perfect I think.  I love the shape of them plus with a linen or burlap barrel shade.... Awwww   What color do you think I should paint them?  I'm wanting to go with white or cream not sure yet.  Got any ideas??

The best thing about these lamps were the price.  It was half price on all green tags  yippee!!!!!  So I got two lamps for four dollars!!!!  (Please ignore my reflection in the photo and yes I have my pjs on)

Lamp Hats

I've been a busy bee lately making chairs, pillows , benches for the sale on Thursday.  Well I didn't think I had enough to do so I added lamps to the list.   I always see old lamps that need some love and they are usually cheap sooooo I'm all over that.  They usually just need some paint and of course a new hat!!

Can you say yuck!!!

Now can you say GORGEOUS.  The lamp started our being brass so I spray painted black.  Her hat was recovered in burlap with a bee motif added.  I think she could hang out with some of those Pottery Barn lamps, don't you think?

This little lady just needed to be dry brushed with some white paint for her to look lovely.  I also added a little french motif to her hat as well.  I kinda what to keep her.   I think she would look great in my bedroom but you can't keep everything... Or can you?

Tooo Cute!!

Woke up this morning tired and not wanting to do a thing.  I think the staying up late is finally hitting me.
I'm really bad about starting a project about 9 o'clock at night thinking to myself "oh this will only take about an hour....."  Boy was I wrong with this next little project.

Ya I know she is super cute now but it took forever to get a dress on this gal!!!  My neighbor Dianna that owns Simply Vintage called me a couple of weeks ago and told me to come look at this chair that she bought at an auction.  Diana is so good at finding furniture that has great bones to it.  Even though the material was hideous it was very sturdy and the legs were gorgeous.  She just needed a dress change.  So I took her home and she sat in the garage for a couple of weeks until the other night at 9:00.  I dug her out grabbed some fabric that I had bought last year on clearance and started to stapling away.

(Excuse the awful picture)

For some reason I had the hardest time getting the fabric tight around her.  The hubs would hold and stretch and I would staple.  She was a real pain.

After going though all the time and trouble of getting her fabric on I thought she would be completed with cording.  Take to mind I have never made cording and you know what?  It's not that hard.  I just went to my favorite blog Miss Mustard Seed.   (She has a great tutorial on how to make it.)  I love her blog she is so creative and gives such great tutorials go check her out if you haven't already.

So after alot of cutting, stapling and cussin I got that girl in her new dress.  I don't even want to tell you what time I got in bed.  Late real late!!!
I took my beauty to the store yesterday and Dianna loved her just as much as I do.  I wish I could keep her but I need to put a few more things in the store.  Oh well I'm sure I can find something just as special to redo soon and I have tons of that fabric so maybe I can make her twin.

Time Out Can Be Fun?

Many of you all know that I'm a recent empty nester.  My children are all young adults in college or married sometimes it's a little sad.  I miss the sleepovers, ballgames, school activities even if it was a little chaotic at times it was well worth it.

With that said I thought I would show you a little project that I finished that has to do with youngsters.  I saw a couple of these stools at the thrift store the other day,  it's one of those army green camp stools.  As I carried them up to the register the hubs said okay now what???

Ya a timeout chair that's what!!!  These stools are the perfect size to sit those little rascals on when they're being naughty.  Super easy I just dry brush watered down white paint, grabbed some drop cloth fabric stenciled timeout and a clock on it and ...bam done.  I did sew a straight seam on the sides I didn't want it to fray.

Love it!!! Wish I had some youngins to put on it.... oh well off to Simply Vintage it goes!!!

A Little Something

This weekend was busy... went to Norman to see my baby in Rent!!  He did  awesome, it was hard to believe that they were college students.  The production was so professional from the acting to the set.
Even though I loved every minute I had to get home early to finish up alot of my projects that I have to complete for Girls Rock.  I have tons to do, it's a little overwhelming.  Good thing I work great under pressure!!
I picked up this little jar lamp at a thrift store this weekend.  I thought it would be great for the store.  It didn't have a shade so I found a crummy but cheap one there.  I knew with a little fabric that it could be fabulous.

So I grabbed some muslin and spray glue.  I always put spray glue on the fabric before I tuck it under and glue.  I think it's just easier because the fabric won't move around.

Then I started tucking and gluing.  I also use a bamboo skewer when I glue.  I never have enough hands plus I hate to get burned by the glue gun so this handy tool helps with that.

I thought it looked a little plain so I added some burlap trim grabbed my stencils and paint and went to town.  I love things with numbers so I decided to put my favorite number 5 on it.  It was easy peasy.

I think it turned out soo cute, I love it.  I hope someone else does too..

Remember Me??

So do you all remember my little bench??  My hubby said it looked like a kids project gone wrong.  Well I loved it, true it was plain and a little rough looking but that didn't stop me.  I knew it could be something special.

Isn't she a cutie? (Please ignore the ugly green carpet yuck... waiting on those hardwoods)   I added a wood fleur de leis painted her grey and dry brushed white over the grey.  For her seat I cut a piece of foam to fit added a drop cloth covering and trimmed it out with rope trim.

So even though she started out being a little rough ...now I think she's a true beauty.

Bench Bench Bench

Today I need to finish this bench I started.  I bought it at a garage sale. It was a just plain ole pine when I got it.  The hubs said it looked like a kids shop project but I know it has potential.

So far I have only one coat of grey on it.. think I'm goin to glaze it with white jazz it up who knows?? Got any ideas??  (Please pretend that I have beautiful wood floors in my kitchen.  Due to having 3 kiddos in college for the past five years they were put on hold but hopefully soon... fingers crossed.)

Here's a few benches and stools that I have completed.

I think the last two are my favorite.  They are tiny little stools I love the ruffle one because I love green.  And the fleur de lis is special I wanted a french script and didn't know what to say so I translated the 23 Psalm with the help of an online translator.( We don't speak much french here in Oklahoma!!) I love love script of any kind it makes me smile!!!!

ISN'T SHE LOVELY

Remember the chair that I asked the hubs to pick up that I bought off craigslist.  Well here she is isn't she pretty.  Well kind of.... I love her bones she is very sturdy and her finish was awesome.  That means no painting just sprucing up a little.  Her seat was horrible though it really didn't fit and if you sat on her no cushion.  I could tell she was really old because her seat was full of horse hair and this weird straw stuff so I just pushed it up there added more foam and stuffing.

Found some neutral fabric in my stash (I think it is a dinner napkin) and poof.... picture perfect!!!!

Not that I don't like her the way she is but I've been wanting to try a slipcover so after making several calls to my mom and wrestling with my machine I started one.  I wanted to try knife pleats so I thought why not.
Mom told me to measure and pin sooo I grabbed a piece of cardboard and pins and went to town (I need to go buy a seamstress tape but cardboard worked just fine).  I also ironed as I went I just think its easier  it keeps everything in place.  I think this chair took me a total of two hours with fixing her seat to making her dress.  I defiantly think it was worth it she's GORGEOUS!!!
